Let's Talk About Leads!

When I was first introduced to Network Marketing I was
immediately introduced to the concept of leads. I was told
that I needed leads to build my business.

I asked . . .

Where do I get these leads?

I was told to go to X leads company and buy them. Then it
was my job to follow up with these leads by phone and tell
them about my business.

I was apprehensive about calling people I didn't know and
even felt strange getting on the phone and telling people
that I was "a home business consultant" and I received their
name as someone interested in home businesses when in
actuality I was a 23 year old guy who bought a list of names
and was calling them because that's what I was told I had to
do if I wanted to be financially independent thru network
marketing.

Never the less I persisted and I got into a routine.

Every month I paid $500 and I got about 20 real time leads a
day for the month that I would call and try to connect with.

It was comforting to have this routine. I even got
comfortable doing it, but after 6 months and a lot of money
spent and very little success I started to get down on
myself.

I was doing what they said to a tee and nothing was
happening. I thought . . . "It must be me?"

Then I did the dire thing I set a timetable for my business.

I said to myself "I'll give this two more months and if
nothing happens I have to take a step back".

(This is the deceptive first step towards giving up! If you
have this thought about your business you're on the way out
because you're starting to define a rational exit for
yourself.)

But the bottom line was.

I spent a good deal of money and time and recouped no
return. That's a very high risk scenario. If this happened
to me then most likely it will happen to others as well.

Leads to me meant a lot of risk and little or no return.

Now let's fast forward to today.

I do things drastically different than I did when I began
and it all begins with the how I manage my leads.

Previously if I went through my phone follow up process with
a lead and it didn't convert I trashed it. In essence I gave
up on that lead.

This created risk for me because I didn't give myself ample
opportunity to develop a long term relationship with that
lead.

See here is what I didn't understand when I first began
network marketing that I have a very clear and concise
understanding of now.

Some people will join your business in the beginning and
those that do are not joining because of you. They see the
offer and that's why they join.

Most don't.

But . . .

If given a chance to develop a relationship with a lead over
the course of time trust can be established and then . . .

What happens is you find that almost like magic leads that
were sitting in the background watching will start to
percolate to the top like bubbles rising from boiling water
to say hey now I'm interested.

These days I don't ever give up on a lead. I establish
credibility and trust and then wait for them to come to me.

A great example of what I mean is last night I got an email
from young lady that gave me her phone number and she told
me to give her a call.

I had some time, so I did.

When she answered the phone, first off, she started giggling
with surprise and excitement about the fact that I would
actually give her a call so quickly.

Immediately she told me that she wanted to make money online
and the rest was history.

That's the type of interaction you deserve in your network
marketing business, but it only comes from cultivating trust
and giving value to your leads over the course of time.

This is something very new to network marketing, I don't
think you'll here to many other network marketers talk about
leads from this perspective.

But that's why I'm here:)

Do You Have What It Takes?

I'm very sorry for my absence.

For the past 5 days I was bed ridden with a terrible cold.
Although it was not very much fun to be sick, it was
somewhat of a blessing.

It gave me a chance to really sit back and reflect over the
past nine months in my network marketing business.

It also gave me a chance to truly sit back and see the power
of network marketing first hand.

While I was sick my team grew by about 100 people and 4
people joined directly through me and I had absolutely
nothing to do with it.

This, as far as I am concerned, is magic!

Remember Jim Rohn's quote?

"Everything in life that's magic is challenging, but once
the challenge is understood and one set out to work on that
challenge magic happens."

I experienced the meaning of this quote first hand over the
last few days while sick and bed ridden.

I'd like to share with you what my time of reflection taught
me about the game of network marketing.

Most people that get involved with network marketing don't
see network marketing for what it truly is.

They see the testimonials of people making huge incomes
quickly and they for the most part wrongly perceive network
marketing as a quick fix to an immediate money problem.

I know this from experience because I see it everyday.

This perspective is completely WRONG and will set 95% of
newbies up for frustration and failure purely based on their
expectations.

Network marketing is not a short term solution to a short
term problem; rather it's a long term plan for CREATING a
life of freedom.

If most people were able to see network marketing for what
it truly is then retention rates would be close to 100% and
long term success per enrollee would be much higher.

Why?

People would choose to start a network marketing business
for the RIGHT reason.

Let me ask you a question . . .

Who stands the greater chance of succeeding in network
marketing?

The person who joins because they are in dire NEED of money
NOW and expect to see a paycheck in the next 30 days
regardless of their experience level or true work output.

OR

The person who joins a network marketing company who KNOWS
that the journey they are about to embark on is long term
and that it will likely take them six months to get a true
handle for the basics and another six months to begin the
long term growth process.
(But dually know that in the next 3 to 5 years they will
create the lifestyle to freely choose what to do with their
time from then on out.)

I don't know about you . . .

but I think the second person has a much greater chance of
succeeding.

I'm about to say something that is very important so please
read this very closely and maybe even write it down.

There is really NO difference between the first and second
person.

In fact, the first and second person I described could for
all intensive purposes be the SAME exact person.

How?

Well . . . The only difference between these two people is
the PERSPECTIVE that they take on the business.

It is in the perspective that one takes that his or her
success is determined.

This means that true network marketing success PRECEDES its
physical manifestation and further is simply a CHOICE.

You can either choose to succeed in network marketing or you
can choose a paradigm that will force failure upon you.

I'm not in this game to fail, so the choice remains simple
to me.

I choose to succeed and that's all you have to do too.

But . . .

Choosing to succeed takes courage.

Once you choose to succeed you must then choose to hold to
your conviction.

Can you make the choice to succeed and then see it through
to completion?

Only you can answer this honestly.

So take the time to answer this question to lend
perspective. . .

If I told you that the next year of your life was going to
be the toughest year you've ever had in every way
imaginable, but at the end of it you would be free to live
the rest of your life anyway you choose, would you be
willing to go through it for the reward of FREEDOM at the
end of the tunnel?

Whether or not this question accurately reflects your first
year in network marketing is besides the point, it's a
litmus test.

Answer this honestly and you will know what FREEDOM means to
you.

Is it something to strive for at all costs or is it
something that would be nice to have if you could somehow
luck into it?

Successful network marketers see it as a black and white
situation.

FREEDOM above all else.

Here's the truth about network marketing.

It's harder than you think. It cost more money than you
think. It takes more time than you think. It takes more
passion than you think. It will test your convictions over
and over again. It will leave you exhausted. It will
frustrate you over and over again. It will actually cost you
a good more of your freedom in the short term than you
think. Your friends and family will most likely think you
crazy for going through all this.

But . . .

If you endure you will earn a life of your choosing.

So I ask you,

Do you have what it takes?

The Power Of Content

Yesterday the 3 doers took action and now I have my students
to teach and train personally!

I'm excited both for them and personally to undertake this
task. I can't wait to teach these three action takers
everything I know and I know that together they will find
the type of success that they aspire to.

But, now on with the fun!

For the last few weeks I've been sending out emails about
the mindset of success.

We've focused on what it takes to be a success not only
online, but to achieve anything you truly want in your life.

We did this for two reasons.

Most likely the traffic will increase once I go out and
distribute these articles further, but even just having them

other sites and newsletter owners will pick them up and use
them.

Content truly is king online.

This is the first lesson on the technical side of internet
marketing.

Are You A Noun Or A Verb?

At the seminar that I attended this past weekend I came
across this quote:

"We are for the most part nouns living a world screaming for
verbs."

[We are for the most part objects, things, in a world in
need of action.]

I thought this statement was quite profound. As I look to
most situations in my life I see this statement as
abundantly true.

I was once a part of the main stream corporate world as a
sales rep and once I got used to that change from school to
the job world I realized that it wasn't something that I was
all that excited to be a part of.

In fact, I remember after about 6 months on the job I got up
to take a shower and all I could thank was this was the
exact same routine that I had followed to a tee everyday for
the last six months.

This shook me to the core when I thought about the future.
Was this routine all I had to look forward to for the rest
of my life?

Furthere, I remember . . .

On my job we were even graded on a monthly basis how well
we did exactly what we were "taught" to do - down to the
very last word. (Can you say automaton?)

I thought the corporate world wanted me because I was
bright, young, and energetic, but all they wanted was
another cog in the wheel - a noun.

Well, I wasn't having any of that! (And I suspect you have
the same desire or else you wouldn't be reading this email.)

My first encounter with network marketing was really not to
much different then my corporate life.

I was giving a task and a script to follow and I was
instructed to head out and do it to a tee.

The goal was financial freedom, but in essence the work was
no different than my corporate experience - this didn't fit
me.

Then came my current MLM.

I created my own plan, my own template for what I needed,
and then found the right business to put that plan into
action.

In fact I don't think I followed the status quo at all or
even asked my upline one question about how I should promote
my business. I simply did what I thought was best.

I took action. In fact, I was action - the verb.

And it was from this action that success began to flow.

I'm not saying following the status quo is wrong. The truth
is most people out there do what they are told to do, "the
job mentality", and live a very descent life for doing it.

All I'm saying is if you want to live the life you dream of
you MUST take independent action.

Do it your way and don't give up until you get there.

Wrestling With Internet Network Marketing

I want to share a story with you that might find some value
in.

In high school and college I wrestled.

In fact if you did a little Google search right now you'd
probably find a few of my old pictures and stories relating
to it.

Well, actually I started wrestling the sixth grade.

When I began wrestling I was about 5 feet and I weighed
about 190 pounds and I couldn't win a wrestling match to
save my life.

I think in middle school I probably won maybe 25% of the
matches I wrestled in.

But then something happened when I got to high school.

I got on the team not knowing what to expect and I saw for
the first time what I wanted out of wrestling.

Prior to that point, I didn't know what I was doing or why
and so I just sort of went with the flow.

It was in high school that I defined my goal.

There was this laid back senior on the team named Eugene. He
pinned just about every single person he wrestled and for
whatever reason I thought this was the coolest thing.

I wanted to be like Eugene.

As fate would have, in that same year I lost about 50
pounds and I met a man that changed my life.

An unlikely short Russian man by the name of Alex, our high
school wrestling coach.

Although it was hard to understand him at first he gave me
something that I don't think any coach had ever given me
before.

He believed in me.

The stage was set.

I mimicked everything that Eugene did in practice down to
his work ethic and Coach Alex was there to support me every
step of the way.

I can't say that I got that much better as a wrestler my
freshman year in high school, but it didn't matter at that
point. I knew what I wanted and I wasn't going to stop until
I got it.

For the next 3 years I spent every summer going to off
season tournaments and wrestling camps. I even took notes
and studied them at night. The other kids thought I was a
little strange, but it didn't matter to me.

I was doing what I thought I needed to do to achieve my
goal.

By the end of my senior year in high school I was All State
and an All American.

It was one of the best feelings of my life.

Getting there wasn't easy.

It took a lot of heart, studying, skill, practice,
discipline, and a measurable goal.

Hmmm . . .

Sounds a lot like network marketing?

All I mean to say by this little story is, if you have a
goal for your network marketing business that you truly
desire, a support system to help you get there, and the
drive to do it you will.

If you're not where you want to be with your business
consider it your freshman year!

You have 3 more years to grow and learn.

Actually I think network marketing is a lot easier than
wrestling.

I mean . . .

I've never had to skip one single meal or try to loose 10 or
more pounds in a day while network marketing while in
wrestling it was just part of the routine.

Don't skip any meals I promise it won't help you network
marketing business.

I Woke Up This Morning To This Email

The Hidden Dangers Of Distraction - Part 2

Remember Steps 1 and 2?

1. The first thing is always work with a goal in mind.

I tell my team to focus on generating 100 leads a month as
goal. (It's important to set your goal as something that you
can easily measure, so keep this in mind when setting your
personal goals.)

2. Each day set a plan of action for yourself containing the
most important activities regard your business based on your
GOAL.

Gauge the importance of each activity based on what your
goal and you will easily see what is important and what is
not.

3. Then as you carry out your daily tasks ask yourself this
question regularly.

"Does what I'm doing right now directly help me move me
towards my goal?"

Be honest with yourself and then have the displine to put
the less important stuff to the side. Their time for it, but
you have reward yourself with that time after the work is
done. (I'll get to this in a second.)

This next point is very important!

4. Do ONE thing at a time.

Even if you have 20 things on your list of things to do for
the day focus on one at a time. It's when you try to multi
task that you easily get swept way in distractions. Do one
thing at a time and make sure you give your full focus to
that one activity while you are doing it.

5. Keep track of your time.

On a notepad as you're carrying out your daily tasks keep
track of how much time you spend on what. This is a very
simple thing to do and could be easily overlooked, but don't
it crucially important that you do carry out this task for
two reason.

First, because what you are able to track expands. If you
track your time you will see where you are spending and you
soon very easily see there are periods where you have more
time than you think. Once you discover this you will be able
to find new and innovative to use this time towards the
success of your goal.

Second, keeping track of your time will keep you focused on
the task at hand and by doing this you will be able to
reward yourself with free time once you have successful
carried out your plan for your designated time period.

For instance,

I try to work in 1 hour blocks. I spend 45 minutes working
and then I give myself a 15 minute break as a reward.

If found that by doing this I can stay focused for the
designated length of time I need to get my task done because
I know that there is always the reward of free time at the
end of the hour.

6. Don't worry!

If you don't get everything done in a day you planned don't
worry. If you've followed the plan above then you didn't
have the time to do it. Just move it to the next days task
and continue.

That's it!

Your time is your most valuable asset, so be sure to use it
to your advantage. Don't let distractions kill your
business!

Why?

Money can be recouped and time can't.

If you spend a dollar you can always earn another where if
you spend a second it's gone forever.

So it's crucially important that you are each aware of this.


One of the biggest mistakes that I've personally made and
I've seen other make is not realizing the value of your
time.

I understand why?

You get distracted.

There are so many tasks that go into each of us successfully
carrying out a day in our lives that you can very easily
loose track of what you spend your time on.

You may each begin the day planning on carrying out certain
task associated with the success of our businesses, but in
the end because of the normal hustle and distraction not get
to any of these important activities.

The truth is it only gets worse as your organization grows.

There is so much time spent on the little things that it
sometimes takes away from doing the actions that are most
important like promotion and training.

This is doubly true on the internet. There is so much to
learn that you can easily get swept away for hours
"researching" and never get around to the actual activities
that are the most important.

This is dangerous.

You each need to be very weary of the time we spend and on
what we spend it.

In this light, I have a few tips that will help keep you on
track with managing your time so that you are able to spend
it most efficiently on the tasks that matter.

1. The first thing is always work with a goal in mind.

Let's Consider Leads

I got up this morning and for some reason I began thinking
about the biggest difference between my success and my
failures as a network marketer and immediately the question
of lead quality came to my mind.

When I was less than a success in network marketing I bought
leads and spent hour's everyday following up with them. Now
that I have a team that grows by about 10 people a day the
one thing that I have never done is bought leads and yet
still had success.

Why the big difference with these two approaches?

I could be wrong, but let's consider a few things . . .

I am very big on the issue of control when it comes to
running a business.

When you buy leads you give up a great deal of control.

When you buy leads you're put on auto ship a set price per
month and then like clockwork once a month you are sent your
monthly lot of leads to work.

This is great because it sets a regular schedule in your
business and gives you certain expectations. You know that
you have X number of leads for the month and it's your job
to follow up with them.

This is not so great because when you're buying leads you
are always left to questions exactly where they came from.
You know they are leads and you know that they want to know
something about a home business, but besides that you really
don't know anything about where these leads came from.

You don't know what type of form they filled out to
designate themselves as leads, when exactly it was they
filled out said form, or exactly how many people this same
lead was distributed.

Leads companies give you an idea about this process, but
when it comes down to it you just have to trust them on it.

This always left me a little weary because without this
knowledge I couldn't properly gauge their expectations or
mine. Further, if your leads company goes out of business
you're left scrambling to find a new company with likely a
whole different system for generating leads for you to get
used to.

Now without buying leads you are left with the task of
generating leads yourself.

Yes this is an additional workload as a rep, but there are
many benefits to this method of growing your network
marketing business this way that far supersede the former.

Why?

Well when you generate your OWN leads you know exactly where
the lead came from, what type of form they filled out, where
they came from, exactly how much these leads cost, and most
importantly how many people this lead was distributed to
(Just you).

When you generate your own leads your leads are your leads
and your leads alone and further if you have your own lead
capture page you know exactly why they filled out the form.

This is important because when you go to follow up with
these leads you know exactly what expectations were set for
them.

They opted in to learn about your business opportunity and
your business opportunity alone.

This is a powerful leverage for you which you should never
underestimate.

With This knowledge you can set precise metrics for growth.

You want more leads you just up your marketing and you know
exactly how many leads you'll generate per the cost and time
involved and exactly how many of them will convert into new
team members for you.

It's completely scalable and YOU control everything!

If any one thing has been the biggest improvement from my
failure to my success it's this.

So . . . Take a few second to consider this.
